Rockstar Games recently launched one of the biggest updates for the multiplayer “GTA Online.” In discussing the “Cayo Perico Heist,” however, the developers may have also hinted at one element that fans can expect in “GTA 6.”
‘GTA 6’ gameplay: What to expect
The newest Heist, which Rockstar advertises as “the biggest ‘GTA Online’ adventure ever,” went live last Dec. 15. While it was added to expand the gaming experience for the online multiplayer, a single-player mode is also one major element.
Launching “Cayo Perico Heist” with a single-player option was important, according to Rockstar. In an interview with GQ, Rockstar Games’ design director Scott Butchard discussed their decision to offer the newest Heist with both solo and multiplayer gameplay and said, “It’s something we’re keen to carry forward.” It was the developers’ way to honor the different gaming preferences of their fanbase as some enjoy playing with other people while others would rather dive into the Heist by themselves and collect the rewards all for themselves.
While there was no specific discussion about “GTA 6” in the same interview, it is also worth noting that Rockstar hinted at not letting go of single-player content anytime soon. Rockstar Games director of design production Tarek Hamad assured fans single-player content is part of the “GTA Online’s” future, and the same promise likely applies to the much-awaited “GTA 6” as well.
It should also be noted that “GTA Online” is confirmed to be released as a standalone game sometime in the second half of 2021. While Rockstar has yet to reveal any detail about “GTA 6,” that move could be hinting at the next main series installment to mainly feature a solo campaign while the online multiplayer focus more on co-op gameplay.
‘GTA 6’ release date is still elusive
The lack of official discussion about “GTA 6” also means fans are still clueless about its release window. Rockstar’s plan to launch a “new generation of “GTA V” next year appears to be a discreet confirmation that the new title is unlikely to launch in 2021 as well.
“GTA V” has been named as one of the best-selling video games of all time, with 135 million copies sold worldwide, 15 million of which were bought just this year alone. The continuing market appeal of the game that was released in 2013 could also explain why there is no rush on Rockstar’s part to launch “GTA 6.”
