“Game of Thrones” Season 8 is undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated TV events in history, with the end of the epic fantasy drama finally in sight. It marks the end of an era and a development that has Peter Dinklage feeling sad. As for why it’s taking so long to premiere, though, the showrunners revealed the expletive-accompanying reason.
During the Emmy’s, Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister in “Game of Thrones” Season 8, shared his thoughts on the show finally ending. The actor said that he feels quite sad about the matter, IndieWire reports, which is understandable. He and his fellow cast members have spent the better part of a decade on the hit series.
When asked about his final day shooting “Game of Thrones” Season 8, the star noted that the people involved in the fantasy epic had become a family for him. He also said that saying goodbye to the show meant also saying goodbye to a life he had lived for many years.
“It was very sad,” Peter Dinklage said to reports. “This is not only a great TV show to be a part of, but it was an enormous family to be a part of.”
As to the reason why “Game of Thrones” Season 8 was actually taking so long to finish, the show’s boss David Benioff said that it’s due to the sheer scale of the project. He shared this tidbit backstage during the Emmys, Digital Spy reports. Considering that this is the final season of the hit series, the people behind “Game of Thrones” Season 8 are likely aiming quite high.
"The final season is taking a long time because it's the biggest thing we've ever done," Benioff explained. "Even though it's six episodes, it was nearly a full year in Belfast either prepping it or shooting it. It's quite extraordinary what the crew and the actors created, and I think when people see it they'll understand why it took so long.
"No one's going on vacation or slacking off, it's just that last season is far beyond what we've ever attempted before, and it is taking a really f**king long time – and I hope it will be worth it."
