Long-running video game series are often anticipated, not only for its new gameplay features but for its continuing storylines as well. “Gears 5” will definitely offer something new for its long-time fans as the plot shifts its focus to Corporal Kait Diaz.
When “Gears 5” was announced at E3 2018, Microsoft also unveiled a cinematic trailer that confirmed Kait is going to be the center of all the chaos and mysteries in the upcoming game. Very shortly after grieving, Kait decides that it is finally time to confront what has been haunting her in her dreams. She then implies that the answer she needs could be linked to the Locust necklace she got from her grandmother.
It then hints at going through Kait’s backstory in “Gears 5.” The character is a former Outsider who became a Gear after the Locust War. The said cinematic trailer also hints at Kait going back to her roots and learning more about herself as a Locust descendant.
Since the upcoming storyline is focused on Kait and her family, it is only fitting to also make her the main playable character in “Gears 5.” As The Coalition boss Rod Ferguson explained (via GamesRadar), “When we looked at the story for Gears 5, we were sort of delving into Kait’s past and her history, her family ties to the locusts, we felt like that’s a better story to not just witness but tell from her perspective.”
Other main characters such as JD Fenix, his father Marcus Fenix, and Delmont Walker are also part of “Gears 5.” They could be playable to some extent since the game will also offer a multiplayer mode.
Microsoft and The Coalition have yet to unveil an actual gameplay walkthrough of “Gears 5,” but it could be happening in the following months with E3 2019 set in June. Meanwhile, the first sneak peek to the game’s multiplayer mode will be revealed during a special event in June. “Gears 5” is slated to be released in 2019.
