Sucker Punch Productions may be working on expanding “Ghost of Tsushima” with a standalone game reportedly called “Ghost of Ikishima.” Reports have also claimed that the developer is “aiming” to release it sometime this year.
‘Ghost of Tsushima’ is reportedly getting a standalone expansion
“Ghost of Tsushima” was one of the well-received AAA titles released last year exclusively for the PlayStation system. The game’s plot ended with closure with main protagonist Jin Sakai claiming the titular authority, which explains why there were not many talks about a sequel. However, it appears that the game may be getting some sort of continuation after all.
Gaming insider Shpeshal_ Nick recently chimed in on a report that “Ghost of Tsushima” is expanding saying fans are going to see it in 2021. He also implied that the project was not supposed to be known to the public at this point.
The tipster mentioned that the “Ghost of Tsushima” expansion – titled “Ghost of Ikishima” – will be a standalone release, which makes it somewhat a mini-sequel. With a potential 2021 launch, Jeux Video suggests the standalone expansion could be announced during Sony’s PlayStation event rumored to take place on July 8.
Ghosts of Ikishima. An Expandalone type game. Aiming for 2021. Not sure how so many seemed to find out so quick.

In a follow-up tweet, Shpeshal_Nick said it is uncertain if the game would have versions for both PS4 and PS5. It is worth noting, though, that “Ghost of Tsushima” was originally released on the last-gen console so its expansion could be launched as a cross-gen title.
‘Ghost of Ikishima’: What to expect
This is a good time to remind gaming fans that “Ghost of Tsushima” is inspired by real historical events, but many elements of the game were works of fiction like the character of Jin. “We’re trying hard to transport people to 1274 Japan,” Sucker Punch creative director Nate Fox previously told Game Informer. “We’re inspired by history, but we’re not building it back stone by stone.”
“Ghost of Tsushima” revolved around the first invasion of the Mongols, who first attacked the Tsushima island. Ikishima, also known as Iki Island, is also a real-life location part of the Tsushima Strait. It was the next region attacked by the Mongol forces following Tsushima. It is then very likely that the standalone expansion “Ghost of Ikishima” will introduce new maps and a possible new protagonist.
