Google fans longing for a major design overhaul may not be getting their wishes granted this year, at least not with the Pixel 5a. A newly leaked video featuring a 360-degree look at the upcoming device suggests it would look almost identical to the Pixel 4a 5G.
Google Pixel 5a design
The first look at the reported design of Pixel 5a comes from a set of rendered images and a 20-second video shared by prolific leaker OnLeaks. A 3D model of the unannounced device is shown spinning horizontally and vertically, revealing enough details to suggest it would look very similar to the 5G variant of its predecessor.
Google is keeping the 3.5mm headphone jack and will be placed on the top edge of the device. The USB-C port is located at the bottom of the Pixel 5a, along with two grilles likely for stereo speakers. The power button will also don a different color than the rest of the phone’s body, also a similar trait to the Pixel phones released last year.
Pixel 5a is expected with thin bezels with a slightly thicker chin. The camera arrangements appear similar as well, with a single hole punch on the upper left corner of the screen and a square camera bump on the rear.
Google Pixel 5a specs
In an earlier report, OnLeaks provided some specs information about the Pixel 5a. The reported dimensions are similar to the Pixel 4a 5G, including a 6.2-inch display, which means it is going to be a little bit bigger than the Pixel 5.
The renders show a dual camera on the rear, but the tipster notes there is also a yet-to-be-identified sensor placed in the camera bump. Meanwhile, the report does not mention the specific megapixels of these lenses. It is worth noting that the Pixel 4a 5G shipped with an 8MP, f/2.0 selfie camera along with a 12.2MP, f/1.7 wide and 16MP, f/2.2 lenses on the back. Interestingly, the processor to be used on the Pixel 5a was not mentioned in the reports.
Google Pixel 5a release date
Google’s launch timeline for Pixel phones was quite disrupted last year after the company fully canceled its I/O conference. The base model of Pixel 4a was released in August, which is a few months later than expected, while the 5G variant arrived in late September with the Pixel 5 (no XL model). Right now, it is still anybody’s guess when the Google Pixel 5a would be launched.
