Greece’s jobless rate rises to 23.4 pct in August

Greece’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate for the month of August rose to 23.4 percent in August from July’s upwardly revised 23.3 percent, showed the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT). The jobless rate in August 2015 was 24.6 percent. The total number of people employed in the month of August totalled 3,687,465 persons. The total number of unemployed persons totalled 1,126,455, whereas the number of inactive amounted to 3,228,437.

As compared with August 2015, the number of employed persons rose by 57,683, a rise of 1.6 percent. Compared with July 2016, the number of employed persons dropped 7,001, a drop of 0.2 percent.

The total number of unemployed person fell 59,894 as compared with August 2015, a drop of 5 percent. Compared with July 2016, the number of unemployed persons rose 1,669, a rise of 0.1 percent. The total number of inactive persons dropped 36,319 as compared with August 2015, a drop of 1.1 percent. Compared with July 2016, the total number of inactive persons fell by 2,238, a rise of 0.1 percent.
