Now that “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite” has officially launched, Niantic is looking to further solidify the game’s position while simultaneously catering to thousands of fans who are enjoying the game. Thus, similar to what the studio did with “Pokémon: Go,” a special event will be held for gamers that will take place in Indiana, Indianapolis.
So here’s what’s known about the upcoming “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite” gathering. It will occur on Aug. 31 to Sept. 1 and tickets will be needed to participate in the event, TC reported.
As of this writing, there’s still now news how much this “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite” ticket will cost, but it’ll likely be around $25 similar to what’s been tagged for other “Pokémon: Go” events. Attendees should expect rare encounters with magical beasts, battling evil forces, and maybe taking on a Fortress or two with fellow wizards and witches.
As for the reception of “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite,” it’s been rather stale compared to how players embraced “Pokemon: Go” in 2016. Where the latter took $2 million 24 hours after it launched, the new AR kid on the block only accumulated $300,000.
The rather lukewarm reception is rooted in the fact that “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite” and “Pokemon: Go” is essentially the same game. Its quests, game mechanics, and the overall vibe is similar with only their lore separating them from each other, The Verge reported.
Still, it’s expected that “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite” will have enough players to warrant further development, although how long the novelty will last remains to be seen. The upcoming event will be a good indicator of this. For its part, Niantic is ecstatic for the gathering and is gearing up for a large number of players to attend.
“We’re delighted to welcome thousands of wizards and witches playing ‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’ to Indy over Labor Day weekend,” said Leonard Hoops, the president, and chief executive of Visit Indy. “Our long history of hosting gamers from around the world and delivering large-scale events makes Indy the perfect place to launch this first-of-its-kind event.”
