Huawei just raised the bar for other smartphone manufacturers targeting the low to mid-range consumers with its Huawei Nova 3i device. The smartphone features some design choices that make it look more expensive than it is, such as a beautiful gradient hue and a glass back. On top of that, it also comes with the new Kirin 710 processor, which reportedly improves mobile gaming experiences.
The 12nm Kirin 710 SoC is basically Huawei’s new mid-range mobile processor that was first installed in the Huawei Nova 3i. The company said as much in its announcement and this particular chip comes with several neat features. Among them is something called “GPU Turbo,” which is intended to optimize the smartphone for mobile gaming, CNET reports.
This is important to note because the mobile gaming industry has been growing faster than practically any other market, including PC and consoles. What’s more, the sophistication of mobile games has also jumped, from simple puzzle or running titles, to full-blown MOBA or battle royale offerings. “PUBG Mobile” and the upcoming “Fortnite” for Android games are good examples of this. This makes the Huawei Nova 3i the company’s most recent bid to corner this industry.
In terms of raw data on how it performs, the Kirin 710 on the Huawei Nova 3i comes with four Cortex-A73 cores, all of which are high-performance variants. The chip apparently clocked at 2.2GHz, which translates to single-core improvements at 75 percent and multi-core speed improvements at 68 percent. Its Mali-G51 MP4 GPU is also 130 percent faster than the Nova 2i’s GPU, GSMArena reports.
Retailing at $295, the Huawei Nova 3i is clearly a budget smartphone, but one that is aimed at mobile gamers as much as it is targeted at casual users. For those who want to enjoy “PUBG Mobile” or the upcoming “Fortnite” for Android without spending too much on a smartphone, this might be the best choice.
