Top executives from leading global AI companies are gathering in New Delhi this week alongside world leaders for the India AI Impact Summit 2026, as India accelerates efforts to attract artificial intelligence investment and shape global AI governance. The high-profile event positions India as a fast-growing hub for AI innovation and large-scale deployment.
Major technology giants including Google, Microsoft, and Amazon have already pledged a combined $68 billion in AI and cloud infrastructure investments in India through 2030. With strong government backing, India is emerging as a strategic market for artificial intelligence development and adoption.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the summit’s theme as “welfare for all, happiness for all,” emphasizing human-centric AI and inclusive technological growth. The event marks the first time a major global AI summit is being hosted in the developing world, reinforcing India’s ambition to amplify the voice of emerging economies in AI policy discussions.
Prominent speakers include Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, and Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis. Modi is also scheduled to appear alongside French President Emmanuel Macron during the summit, highlighting growing international AI partnerships.
Unlike previous AI summits in the UK, South Korea, and France that focused heavily on AI safety and voluntary corporate commitments, India is emphasizing application-led innovation. The country’s recent Economic Survey urged policymakers to prioritize AI deployment and real-world use cases over building frontier AI models.
India has become OpenAI’s largest user market, with more than 72 million daily ChatGPT users by late 2025. However, rapid AI adoption also raises concerns for India’s $283 billion IT services sector, particularly call centers, which analysts warn could face significant revenue declines by 2030.
With over 250,000 expected visitors and 300 exhibitors at the Bharat Mandapam convention complex, the summit has already driven a surge in luxury hotel prices across Delhi and prompted the Supreme Court to allow virtual court appearances due to anticipated congestion.
