“Kingdom Hearts 3” has snatched the title of the best-selling game in the month of January. And while its predecessor achieved the same accolade when it was released in 2005, the latest entry got it beat in terms of sales performance by 2.5 times, IGN reported.
Last week, a report showed that “Kingdom Hearts 3” is seeing declining sales in Japan but managed to climbed its way to the top of the European GSD charts. A lot of the game’s success is attributed to the nostalgia it produces for its hardcore fan base.
Since “Kingdom Hearts 3” took more than a decade to hit the market, it’s understandable that old gamers want to reunite with Sora, Goofy, and Donald through their adventures across multiple realms. Mix that with several iconic Disney characters and locations and the title’s appeal grows further.
However, one of the major flaws that “Kingdom Hearts 3” is how convoluted its plotline is. Indeed, the lore of the game alone is enough to make your head spin. Luckily for the title, its game mechanics are as fun as it’s been advertised.
With Sora’s Keyblade taking on different forms, players have a plethora of options to disposed monsters and finish missions. However, when compared to the game mechanics of “God of War” and “Marvel’s Spider-Man,” the title is found wanting.
Still, gamers are enamored by “Kingdom Hearts 3” with its unique charm and complicated story that spans more than a decade. There’s also the little details of the game that oddly stick with people. Among them is the quest that required players to find 90 lucky emblems that came in the form of Mickey Mouse indentations.
Due to people’s obsession with acquiring all of the emblems, the search for the Hidden Mickey has transitioned in real life, Kotaku reported. Fans of “Kingdom Hearts 3” took to Reddit and Twitter to share real-world emblems that they’ve found whenever they logged off the game. And it is adorably hilarious.
