Apple is no longer expected to make any Mac-related announcements for the remaining months of 2022. A new report suggests the tech giant is now "aiming" to unveil the anticipated M2-powered MacBook Pro models sometime in the first quarter of next year.
Until this weekend, many have anticipated Apple to launch updated versions of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro before the end of the year. That changed, though, in the latest Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman. The Bloomberg reporter now says the lineup of unreleased Mac products is planned to be released "early next year."
Gurman said he was told of the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro launch timeline currently planned for the first quarter of 2023. But it would be out of character for Apple to release new hardware in January and February, so the journalist speculates an announcement in March next year.
The report also noted that the macOS Ventura 13.3 and iOS 16.3 software updates are expected to go live in February or March. It would then not be a surprise if new Apple devices -- like the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro -- are released in the same period.
Gurman added that the new reported launch window for the M2 MacBook Pros should not be viewed as a delay. He recalled his first reports on the products, where his sources claimed the premium laptops had been planned to launch sometime between late 2022 and early 2023.
Design-wise, the upcoming MacBook Pros are not expected to get any significant updates. This means the biggest changes Apple fans can expect will come from the new chips M2 Pro and M2 Max. The report said the latter will feature 12 CPU cores and 38 GPU cores.
As mentioned, Apple is expected to announce multiple Mac products next year. Apart from the new MacBook Pros, the company is also rumored to be working on updating the Mac mini. There are reportedly different versions in testing, including one powered by the baseline M2 chip and another unit that includes the M2 Pro. However, it seems that Apple has not yet finalized plans to bring a more powerful Mac mini variant to the market.
