McDonald’s is releasing what is described as one of “their most Japanese items ever” — the Strawberry Daifuku Pie.
The new pie has strawberry daifuku, a tremendously popular sweet in Japan, as a filling for the McDonald’s apple pie casing, which is given pink hue with a dash of strawberry to match the sakura.
A strawberry daifuku has mochi sticky rice, red bean paste, and, of course, strawberries.
While it was difficult to nail the correct combination of flavors and textures to replicate strawberry daifuku, McDonald’s blended strawberries into the mochi and served it alongside just the right amount of bean paste to create the perfect balance of tart and sweet notes.
The pie, priced at 160 yen, will be on the menu until mid-April.
