Korea Seven, the South Korean operator of the 7-Eleven convenience store chain, has set up a virtual store where customers can enter a metaverse platform to attend entertainment events such as festivals and music performances.
It was reported that the virtual space was created by the local mobile carrier, SK Telecom, for Korea Seven. On the platform, they created chairs and other objects using many food items such as beer and ramen noodles as inspiration. This means visitors may find beer-shaped chairs where people can sit and hang out.
Ifland is SK Telecom’s metaverse service, and in the past, it already showcased many performances of musicians and indie bands. The mobile carrier utilizes a number of cameras to capture an entire event scene in 360 degrees via the virtual world. This technique of capturing images to make three-dimensional environments and produce high-end holographic virtual reality and augmented reality content just make the metaverse experience exhilarating.
Aju Business Daily reported that in June, a virtual music festival also took place via ifland, and fans were able to fully enjoy the surreal performances. Now, Korea Seven launched its virtual store on the Ifland metaverse platform.
It was said that in the virtual store, there is a large screen and stage that users can utilize to hold events or simply watch videos with others through their respective avatars. "We will utilize the store on Ifland targeting Generation Zs who are the main customers of our convenience stores," Kim Ki Yeop, Korea Seven's digital transformation division official, said in a statement.
The new Korea Seven’s virtual store has been modelled after its existing shop located at Dong-ah Institute of Media and Arts. This is a college institution in Anseong which is some 42 miles away from Seoul.
People who have not been to the said college may also use Korea Seven’s metaverse store to check it out. They can move around the campus that is close to the actual store.
