EINDHOVEN, The Netherlands, Dec. 13, 2016 -- NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ:NXPI), today announced it will add five additional years to the longevity program for six S08 8-bit microcontrollers (MCU) in response to the continued demand and broad market usage of these products.
As the market leader in MCUs and IoT processing, NXP introduced 25 product families to its successful line of S08 8-bit high performance MCUs over the past 12 years, with the S08QG, S08QD, S08SF, S08SH, S08AC, and S08FL MCU families being among the most popular. Together with the extension of these popular 8-bit MCU families and the S08 products to follow in 2017, NXP provides engineers the foundation to expand on today’s applications for the Internet of Tomorrow.
“The S08 microcontroller is NXP’s most successful 8-bit MCU, garnering wide adoption over the last decade. And as a trusted supplier, we understand that our ongoing investment and commitment to the longevity of key S08 products is critical, which is why we are extending longevity program of the six most popular S08 MCU products,” said Emmanuel Sambuis, vice president and general manager of the microcontroller product line at NXP.
“The S08 MCU portfolio contributes to NXP’s unique scale of microcontroller and microprocessor products – allowing us to deliver innovative products, from low cost 8-bit S08 MCUs to ultra-low power ARM® Cortex®-M-based MCUs, and high-performance Cortex-A microprocessors,” said Geoff Lees, senior vice president and general manager of the microcontroller business line at NXP. “All of this is further strengthened by our comprehensive software and solutions, ensuring our customers are always in a position to solve ever more challenging problems.”
NXP’s 8-bit portfolio offers the reliability and robustness needed to withstand harsh working environments, making the S08 MCU portfolio ideal for automotive, industrial control and home appliance applications. Complete with both 3V and 5V options, the S08 MCU portfolio also comes packed with a rich set of features offering high performance paired with low power consumption.
Inspired by the passion to make the devices we interact with every day smarter, NXP drives to deliver a product to solution challenges faced by engineers, while also helping them adapt to future needs. With the more than 60 combinations of devices included as part of this product longevity extension*, NXP looks forward to what the future holds with respect to 8-bit powered devices.
