The next Nintendo Direct, and the first in 2021, has been officially confirmed. It has now sparked a new round of speculations on what potential games the company could announce.
Nintendo Direct 2021 schedule and where to watch
Speculations about the next Nintendo Direct have been a recurring topic in the rumor mill and many online discussions over the previous months. Luckily, fans do not have to rely on unverified claims this time as Nintendo had officially announced the virtual event. And the even better news is they will not have to wait a long time before the next Nintendo Direct because it is happening on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 5 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. PT.
Like most Nintendo Direct presentations, tuning in on the event is going to be an easy task. The placeholder for its YouTube stream is now up. On the lower right corner of the video thumbnail, fans will find when the Nintendo Direct will start on their local time. There is also a “Set reminder” button that they can click to get notified once the event is about to start.
Nintendo Direct 2021: What announcements to expect
When Nintendo announced its next Direct stream on early Tuesday, the company provided an overview of what it is going to announce and how long the virtual event will last. Based on these details, this appears to be more like a “general” Nintendo Direct, which is a good thing because this where Nintendo usually makes some of its biggest announcements.
However, even before the first Nintendo Direct of 2021 happens, the company already let fans know that the presentation will last “roughly 50 minutes.” The event appears to be a mix of announcements about existing and upcoming games. Nintendo confirmed that there will be some news about “available games” such as “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” and updates about titles that will launch in the first half of 2021.
It is understandable if fans are already imagining all the major titles Nintendo could announce, like the much-awaited sequel of “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.” However, others are a bit more cautious, and they are considering that an announcement as significant as that could be reserved for another Nintendo Direct that may happen during E3 in June.
