European Union partners in recent days have shrugged of UK's complaint over recent migrant crisis, in which thousands of immigrants from Middle East and Africa have been trying to gain entry into UK illegally from France via Euro Tunnel.
British Prime Minister David Cameron has announced a referendum over UK's stay in European Union by 2017, if its demand for reforms, some which might require treaty change are not met. European immigration and immigrants' status and benefits are one of the key agenda in UK's demands.
European leaders' attitude over current crisis shows that it will not be easy for the Cameron Team, led by Chancellor George Osborne to win the negotiation for UK.
Why UK's complaints are falling into deaf ears -
- With rise in conflicts, immigrants from Africa and Middle East have poured into Europe via Libya, mainly to Greece and Italy. European leaders have called for intra-European distribution of immigrants more evenly across countries to reduce burden.
- While British are complaining about thousands, rest of Europe is handling more than ten times the size.
- UK, Hungary and Austria are the only countries in Europe, which refused to take part in the exercise of evenly distributing the immigrants.
- While number of Asylum seeker in UK stands at 26,000, Germany is handling 179,000. UK accepted only 10,000.
European Union has been history's biggest political project with immense success. UK should take a balanced approach or risk being out of it or losing its power and say even if it stays in.
