The graphics card war is about to heat up with the NVidia GeForce RTX 2060 pitted against the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. But competition is always good news for consumers as it could mean better prices for either GPUs.
In fact, a price war might have already started. Tech watchers attending the CES 2020 were a bit surprised to find a GeForce RTX 2060 variant priced 15 percent lower than usual, Tech Radar reported.
In a visit to the EVGA booth, Wccftech noted that an EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 KO Edition only carried a price tag of US$299. This is indeed a very surprising find since when the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 launched it had a price tag of $349 while its more high-end variant was being offered at $399.
Now speculations are saying that NVidia might have slashed the price of the GeForce RTX 2060 to make it more competitive. Tech analysts believe that the company might be pitting it against a new entrant into the GPU market, AMD’s Radeon RX 5600 XT.
The AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT has been positioned as the ideal upgrade to NVIDIA's older card, the GTX 1060, according to Engadget. The GTX 1060 was a great card when it launched years ago but it’s no longer meeting the 60FPS demand for current-gen AAA titles.
For instance, NVidia’s older card only maxes at around 57 FPS (frames per second) in “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” with a 1080p video output with ultra-quality settings. AMD’s Radeon RX 5600 XT, on the other hand, easily reaches 92 FPS.
Similar results were obtained in other games such as the “Gears of War 5,” “The Witcher 3,” and “The Division 2.” At 1080p, NVIDIA's GTX 1060 struggled to reach 60FPS while the Radeon RX 5600 XT GPU churns out 90FPS videos.
Overall, AMD’s RX 5600 XT is 20 percent faster than the GTX 1660 Ti. It is also 15 percent faster than the GTX 1660 SUPER.
The AMD RX 5600 XT has a price tag of $279, which is probably the reason why NVidia slashed its newer GPU, the GeForce RTX 2060, to just $299. While it is still higher by $20, it offers better performance than the AMD graphics card. For instance, the NVidia GeForce RTX 2060 is 20 percent faster compared to the GTX 1660 SUPER.
