PS5 and Xbox Series X Leaks: Microsoft console might have a better GPU than the Sony

The gaming industry has been closely monitoring developments of two next-gen gaming consoles - the PS5 and the Xbox Series X - since they were announced by Sony and Microsoft respectively. If the leaks are true, then the upcoming consoles will arrive with specs way ahead of the current-gen ones but the worrying part is that they might arrive with higher price tags as well.

According to Eurogamer, the leaks probably came from someone who works at AMD and stored benchmark data on GitHub. While the data was not public it eventually leaked its way into the internet.

Leaked PS5 Specs

Based on the leaked PS5 specs, the console’s CPU with have eight AMD Zen 2 Cores with SMT. It will sport GDDR6 memory with a rated bandwidth of 448GB/s but Eurogamer also pointed at that it could go as high as 512GB/s.

In addition, recent test leaks revealed something about the PS5 GPU as well. It will have 36 Navi compute units running at 2.0GHz. Though unconfirmed, the publication expects to have a 9.2 teraflop PlayStation 5 GPU.

Meanwhile, the GPU allows for three different modes. This could mean that the PS5 will provide hardware backward compatibility to its older cousins, the PS4 and PS4 Pro.

These specs are definitely massive improvements compared to the current-gen consoles. This might also mean that the upcoming console will arrive with a higher launch price than its predecessors.

Leaked Xbox Series X Specs

Just like the PS5, the upcoming Microsoft console Xbox Series X will feature eight AMD Zen 2 Cores with SMT based on the leaks. It will sport GDDR6 with bandwidth rated at 560GB/s.

While the data is incomplete at the moment, there are indications that the Xbox Series X will have a better GPU compared to the PS5. The Microsoft console will sport 56 Navi compute units running at 1700MHz which will result in a 12.2-teraflop GPU. With a more powerful graphics card, it might even have a higher price tag than the PS5.

PS5 and Xbox Series X release dates

According to T3.com, the PlayStation 5 release will likely fall in November or December 2020. The Xbox Series X release is expected to happen by the fourth quarter of 2020 as well.
