Qualcomm semiconductor company is partnering with Hyundai Motor Group for an infotainment system that will be installed on the automaker’s future purpose-built vehicles (PBVs). The system will run on the chip maker’s advanced automotive solutions.
According to Korea Joongang Daily, this is the first collaboration between Hyundai Motor and Qualcomm for the infotainment system. PBVs are types of vehicles that can be used for different purposes. Its flexibility allows business owners to use the vehicle for logistics or commercial uses, depending on their requirements.
The San Diego, California-based semiconductor company said on Thursday, Aug. 4, that it will specifically supply its latest creation - the Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platforms - for the infotainment system in Hyundai Motor’s PBV models. It said that the same chip will also be used for the vehicle manufacturer’s other brands, such as Kia and Genesis.
Qualcomm said its Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platforms are designed to “achieve optimal power consumption while delivering top-level graphics and immersive multimedia and audio experiences.”
“Qualcomm Technologies has been a trusted technology partner in the automotive industry for over 20 years, with leading automakers looking to Qualcomm Technologies for our leadership, innovation and expertise,” Kwon Oh Hyung, Qualcomm’s senior vice president and president of Asia-Pacific (APAC), said in a press release. “We are excited to work with Hyundai Motor Group on PBV to provide digital in-vehicle experiences powered by the Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit platform.”
Meanwhile, Korea Bizwire reported that under the deal between Qualcomm and Hyundai Motor Group, the former’s Snapdragon solutions will be applied to the former’s infotainment system in PBVs to provide a “holistic, seamlessly connected and smart user experience.” The automaker is developing purpose-built vehicles as it seeks to further grow its mobility solutions.
