News about “Rick and Morty” Season 4 is scarce at the moment as show creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland continue to produce the much-awaited release. Right now, it isn’t clear what direction the animated series will take in its plotline.
The previous season ended on a pretty mundane note as the family was seen sitting around the dinner table and laughing at Rick. This is the polar opposite of what occurred on the second installment’s finale where Earth was overtaken by the Galactic Federation and saw Rick getting incarcerated. As such, there’s no telling how “Rick and Morty” Season 4 will begin and what adventures the duo will go through.
However, there is a hint that a recurring plotline will occur. The story in question is the Citadel and Evil Morty’s return. On Nov. 6, storyboard artist Douglas Einar Olsen tweeted this image and captioned it with “Aw jeez, do we really want an Evil Morty to rule the Citadel??” While Olsen didn’t confirm anything yet, it does suggest that this storyline will be explored once again in “Rick and Morty” Season 4.
After all, Evil Morty is one of the most compelling villains that the show has created. For the episode count, fans should expect the standard ten for “Rick and Morty” Season 4, although Dan Harmon did say that they wanted to push that number to 14.
It can be recalled that Cartoon Network ordered a whopping 70 episodes from the show creators so there’s a chance that the figure might come true. However, Dan Harmon did warn the fans not to raise their expectations as the third installment was supposed to have 14 episodes but ultimately ended up with 10. It isn’t clear what exactly caused the complication that forced them to stop at 10, but some sort of creative conflict between the creators are being speculated as the culprit. Hopefully, such conflict wouldn’t resurface on the production of “Rick and Morty” Season 4 as an extra four episodes is a welcome salve for the long wait.
As for the fourth installment’s release date, everyone involved in its production has been keeping a lid on that regard. The best guess is late 2019 although some audiences are hoping that the series will return a little sooner than that.
