A Ukrainian drone attack in Russia’s Belgorod border region killed one person and injured three others on Thursday, according to regional authorities. Belgorod, which borders Ukraine, has frequently been targeted by drone strikes and cross-border attacks since the conflict escalated.
Officials from the region’s General Headquarters said on Telegram that one drone struck a private residential house in the town of Graivoron, located near the Ukrainian border. The attack killed one man and injured another resident. Emergency services responded quickly to the scene as local authorities assessed the damage caused by the explosion.
In a separate incident, another Ukrainian drone reportedly detonated in a nearby village within the Belgorod region. The blast injured two additional people, raising concerns over continued security threats in Russian border communities. Authorities have not released further details about the victims or the extent of property damage from the second attack.
The latest drone strikes come amid ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with border regions such as Belgorod increasingly becoming flashpoints in the conflict. Russian officials have repeatedly accused Ukraine of carrying out attacks on civilian infrastructure and residential areas near the border.
The attacks also occurred during a political transition in the Belgorod region. The governor of Belgorod was among two regional leaders who stepped down from their positions on Wednesday. Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Alexander Shuvaev, a highly decorated military veteran, as the acting governor of the region.
Security measures have reportedly been tightened across Belgorod following the incidents as authorities continue monitoring potential threats along the Russia-Ukraine border.
