REDMOND, Wash., Feb. 10, 2016 -- Sensoria Inc., a world leader in the development of smart garments and wearable systems, has appointed Dr. David G. Armstrong to head its newly established Scientific Advisory Board. As a leader in podiatric surgery and research, Dr. Armstrong holds the honor of being the youngest ever recipient of the American Diabetes Associations’ (ADA) Roger E. Pecoraro Award—the highest award given in his field—and is the youngest-ever member to be elected into the Podiatric Medicine Hall of Fame. In his new role on Sensoria’s Scientific Advisory Board, Dr. Armstrong will focus on the scientific validation of Sensoria’s technology in clinical applications.
“Textile sensing infused smart garments have the potential to be a game-changer in managing and measuring how we move through the world,” said Dr. Armstrong, a tenured Professor of Surgery at The University of Arizona. “I’m excited and honored to be working alongside the Sensoria team, who are leaders in the field, as we head into this new frontier together.”
Sensoria’s flagship Smart Socks are infused with textile pressure sensor technology, which connects to an electronic anklet. They were initially developed to help runners identify injury-prone running styles, and improve their form and training. Sensoria recognizes the potential of its smart garment technology platform to address different scenarios, including some specific ones in healthcare.
“Dr. Armstrong is renowned for his research in amputation prevention, diabetic foot, wound healing and the merger of consumer electronics with medical devices. He has published more than 425 peer-reviewed research papers in dozens of medical journals,” said Davide Vigano, CEO and co-founder of Sensoria. “We are very excited to have such a qualified expert to spearhead our new advisory board efforts to further Sensoria’s impact in the clinical space.”
At CES2016, Sensoria unveiled Sensoria Walk, a beta version of an app which aims to improve activity tracking for people with gait impairments and limited mobility. The app will be made available to iPhone users later this month.
