About seven months after the development of "Skate 4" was confirmed, EA officially introduced the studio working on the much-awaited continuation of the series. Details about the next installment are still scarce, but the studio promised it would be a "next evolution" kind of game.
Is it going to 'Skate 4' or a reboot? Here's what developer Full Circle says
Full Circle is the latest addition to EA's slate of video game studios, and it appears to be currently focused solely on making "Skate 4." The company's tagline is that it makes fun funner, which seems fitting for a team working on a game like "Skate." While the studio's headquarters is in Vancouver, it claims to "[embrace] a geo-diverse team" that has "members around the globe."
The developer seems like it is careful not to call the game "Skate 4" explicitly. Even in its current job openings list, the studio only refers to the project as "SKATE." It obviously does not help fans as this does not end the speculations on whether or not the next game will be a full-fledged sequel or something like a franchise reboot.
However, fans might want to look at other potential clues for this matter. First, the Full Circle website says, "We're working on the next evolution of 'Skate,' and set to deliver an experience that will embrace and build upon everything our community found special about the previous games." The use of the phrase "next evolution" should pique everybody's interest as it seems to suggest there will be a next-level title. However, the statement somewhat backpedals in the following sentence where Full Circle hints at bringing back features that were "special about the previous games."
In an interview with Jenkem magazine last year, developers Cuz Perry and Deran Chung said the official title was not yet confirmed and suggested that they are not close to finalizing it at the time. "We're making the next version of 'Skate,' whatever that is," the developers added.
'Skate 4' release date, compatible platforms: What to expect
The very recent introduction of Full Circle might also be saying something about the potential release date of "Skate 4." As the studio is still looking for plenty of new members to join their team, fans should expect the wait to go on for a little longer.
Another mystery about "Skate 4" is the list of compatible platforms. The latest installment, "Skate 3," was released in 2010 and was only launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. But with the growing community of PC gamers, it would not be surprising if EA wants the franchise to tap that market as well.
