As the cherry blossoms prepare to grace Japan with their annual spectacle, Starbucks commemorates the season with its latest offering—the Sakura Matcha with Sakura Jelly. This profound embrace of Japanese traditions serves as both a tribute and a treat, beckoning the essence of spring into every cup.
Savor the Season with Sakura Matcha Delights
Since 2005, the "Chilled Cup" series has been a herald of seasonal joy, with Starbucks rolling out novel flavors year after year to the delight of its patrons. SoraNews 24 noted that 2023 marks almost two decades of this eagerly anticipated tradition, once again brought to life through the much-celebrated, limited-edition Sakura variety.
A luxurious melange of cherry blossom fragrance, matcha, and creamy milk, coupled with the playful texture of sakura jelly, the Sakura Matcha with Sakura Jelly Chilled Cup is Starbucks' ode to spring's arrival. This sublime dessert drink offers an indulgent experience amidst the fleeting blooms. It will be available in convenience stores nationwide starting 6 February, priced at 230 yen (US$1.56).
A Design That Captivates and Campaigns That Charm
Fans are treated to a visually delightful cup design each year, and this year's edition doesn't disappoint. Adorned with vibrant shades of pink, juxtaposed with strokes of green celebrating the matcha flavor, the cup boasts full-bloom sakura. Its dome-shaped lid nods to the iconic Frappuccino, offering a touch of Starbucks' coffeehouse charm.
Adding to the festivities, Starbucks Japan is initiating a campaign exclusively for residents, with a chance to win a special picnic set for enjoying under the cherry blossoms—a springtime custom cherished by many. Entry details will emerge via Starbucks CPG's official Twitter on 6 February.
Moreover, 1,000 Sakura aficionados can win an original tote bag by befriending the Starbucks CPG account on the Line app and sharing their Sakura Chilled Cup moments.
Spring at Starbucks isn't just a taste—it's an immersion into the traditions and beauty of Japan, promising both locals and visitors an encounter with the spirit of sakura season that extends far beyond the realms of coffee.
In addition to the Sakura-themed offering, SoraNews 24 reported that Starbucks Japan also unveiled a second set of Valentine's Day-inspired Frappuccinos named after the famous French Opera cake, complementing its festive, flavor-filled season.
