People from nearly a hundred years ago envisioned today as being the age of flying cars and an environment reminiscent of space. But it seems that kind of vision is probably what CEO Elon Musk had in mind when he recently unveiled the Tesla Cybertruck to everyone for the first time.
The first thing to note is how the design of this truck dramatically differs from the conventional pickup truck in the market. When it was first revealed, it naturally had everyone talking. The steel body of the new vehicle was more angular and was met with mixed reactions from the crowd present during the unveiling. However, designers seem to be happy with how the Cybertruck looks or at least satisfied knowing that such a design for an automobile can be able to exist.
Industrial Designers Society of America executive director Chris Livaudais expressed that he also shared the same initial reactions as many when the concept of a Tesla truck was about to be brought into fruition and when it finally appeared all made and ready. But he also shared his optimism towards the Cybertruck’s design. “Then you look at it a bit more and you wonder, is this what the modern truck world needed? Finally, a truck that looks like the future!”
Another thing to note is the claims Musk made towards the exterior of the Cybertruck. The body of the truck is said to be bulletproof against smaller handguns, like a 9-millimeter firearm. This is due to the body being made from a newly developed stainless steel alloy. The alloy, in particular, is the same one used for SpaceX rockets.
The same can be said for the vehicle’s windows, which he claimed are unbreakable. Naturally, that claim was tested when a man tried to hit the windows with a sledgehammer. No windows broke, but interestingly, a metal ball was thrown at the windows managed to make it break. Musk’s response to that was that the ball did not break through the windows.
Apart from the design and the very durable exterior was the performance of the Cybertruck. Musk claimed that the Cybertruck could be able to tow and haul better than the Ford F-150 and sports car-wise, better than the Porsche 911.
As for the price? The Tri-Motor All-Wheel Drive Cybertruck starts at $69,900, but the base version of the Cybertruck starts at $39,900.
