“The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 no longer belongs to the list of anime series renewals that have been puzzling fans for so long. Its return to the small screen was one of the biggest surprises of the fall season.
Furthermore, fans who enjoyed the 2017 movie loosely based on the same title light novel franchise will be happy. The same production team and studio were confirmed to return for “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2.
'The Irregular at Magic High School' season 2 production, release date
It took over five years since the anime’s first installment’s conclusion before “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2. So it was not strange for some fans to assume that the 2017 movie “The Irregular at Magic High School: The Girl Who Calls the Stars” served as a closing for the anime adaptation of the light novel series by Tsutomu Sato.
Luckily, that is not the case. “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 has since been confirmed. But some changes are in order, especially in the team that would be producing the anime series.
The first season was produced by Madhouse, a studio that has built a good reputation on most anime fans. However, the company will not return for “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2, and the upcoming episodes will instead be produced by Eight Bit. The latter is also familiar with the franchise because it is the same studio that worked on the 2017 movie.
Unfortunately, producers will need more time to announce the specific release date of “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2. But it is confirmed to happen sometime in 2020.
'The Irregular at Magic High School' season 2 plot: What to expect
It has also been confirmed that the “The Irregular at Magic High School” season 2 will be solely based on the light novel’s Visitor Arc. This means that the second season will pick up from where the series ended in 2014. Based on the reports, it is the only source material to be used in season 2. That means Angelina Kudou Shields will be introduced based on the original story and that the next installment will have a shorter run.
