The Strong Museum Features Video Game DICE Award Winners In Exhibit

Fallout 4.GameVideo/YouTube

Partnering with the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS), The Strong Museum is featuring new additions to its video game collection. Foremost among them are the winners of this year’s Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain (D.I.C.E.) summit award. According to an article by Gamespot, among the awards that are featured include Game of the Year, which “Fallout 4” won and Hall of Fame inductees, which this year named the creator of the “Metal Gear” franchise Hideo Kojima.

The Strong Museum is located in Rochester, New York and its exhibit provides visitors with a touchscreen interface that allows them to browse categories of the D.I.C.E. awards, from the winner of the award in Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction, to the Family Game of the Year winner. The AIAS has been giving out D.I.C.E. awards since 2002 with an emphasis on business performance and innovation. As such, it has a much more numbers-oriented system of giving out awards than other video game conferences.

According to a 2015 Fortune article for example, "Fallout 4" sold over 12 million copies within 24 hours of its release, which is worth $750 million. An April 28, 2016 report by Superdataresearch.com placed "Fallout 4" on the number 4 spot for its Downloadable Content (DLC) revenues for March 2016 on the PC. In terms of top grossing Console Game revenue (Xbox One, PS4), the site placed the game at number 5 for March 2016.

The decision by The Strong Museum to collaborate with the AIAS is another mark indicating the increasing presence of video games in the serious financial market and how far the industry has come as a whole.

"The AIAS is honored to partner with The Strong to present the history of our awards and industry. The Strong is the ideal partner with which to showcase the many accomplishments of the video game community and to hopefully inspire new generations to follow in the distinguished footsteps of our industry's pioneering game makers," Martin Rae, the president of the AIAS said.
