U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he plans to pardon Todd and Julie Chrisley, stars of the reality TV show Chrisley Knows Best, who were convicted in 2022 for federal tax evasion and bank fraud. The couple had been found guilty of conspiring to defraud Atlanta community banks by submitting false documents to secure millions in personal loans, which they reportedly used for luxury items, real estate, and travel.
Todd Chrisley was initially sentenced to 12 years in prison and Julie to seven. However, both sentences were later reduced, according to media reports. The pardon comes after growing pressure from the Chrisley family, including their daughter Savannah Chrisley, who has publicly campaigned for their release.
In a video posted by the White House on X (formerly Twitter), Trump is seen speaking to Savannah, saying, “Your parents are going to be free and clean and I hope we can do it by tomorrow.” The phone call has since gone viral, boosting public attention around the case.
The Chrisleys rose to fame through their USA Network show, which aired ten seasons from 2014 to 2023. The show portrayed Todd as a wealthy real estate mogul and family patriarch. A spinoff series, Growing Up Chrisley, aired four seasons between 2019 and 2022.
Trump’s decision is expected to spark debate, especially given the high-profile nature of the couple’s crimes and the ongoing political implications of presidential pardons.
