“The Walking Dead” Season 9 is still on hiatus and most fans are left reminiscing the best moments in this installment’s first half. While Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) exited this season, the post-apocalyptic drama still managed to breathe new life to its storyline.
This is mostly thanks to the fresh perspective brought by the new leadership of Angela Kang. Season 7 and 8 is touted as one of the worst installments of the franchise given how poorly the plotline was handled. Even one of the cast members agrees with this criticism. Michael Cudlitz, who played Abraham Ford, said Rick’s decision in handling the Saviors were questionable at best. Fortunately, “The Walking Dead” Season 9 seems to be picking itself up and is preparing for some explosive ending next year.
The protagonists are pitted against The Whisperers at the moment and the mid-season finale saw Daryl (Norman Reedus), Michonne (Danai Gurira), and several members of Alexandria surrounded by flesh-eating corpses. Although the series has long broken away from the story unfolded in the comics, it’s safe to assume that the ending of “The Walking Dead” Season 9 will closely follow its source material.
This is especially true given how the show is setting up Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) yet again. The former head of the Saviors will be causing a lot of headaches in “The Walking Dead” Season 9, but more for The Whisperers rather than the people of Alexandria.
In fact, Negan played an integral role in the comics in defeating this new threat. This troubled character was the one who killed Alpha and sent Beta scampering off during The Whisperer War arc. Through his actions during these events, Negan was eventually granted freedom by Rick – who’s still alive in the comics. It’s still unclear, however, what Kang is planning for Negan. While the idea of killing him will provide satisfaction for some fans, others are more interested in his redemption story. Hopefully, Negan’s character will be explored further in “The Walking Dead” Season 9 when it airs in February 2019.
