‘The Winds of Winter’ News: George RR Martin Pressured to Finish ‘TWOW’; Author to Split Novel to Two Books

George RR Martin

“The Winds of Winter” in the works as early as 2007 and by 2010, George RR Martin already completed four chapters. The finished stories were from the viewpoints of Arianne Martell, Arya Stark, and Sansa Stark. A few months after, in July of the same year, he added the Aeron Greyjoy story that was originally meant to be included in the “A Dance with Dragons,” the fifth book in the “ASOIAF” novel series.

By this time, “The Winds of Winter” already have 100 pages, however, George RR Martin said that it may take him three more years to complete the book so the release date of 2011 has been canceled. Until 2016, the author made several promises to release the book but those were always broken so it is understandable why many fans got upset.

Now, since the fans are now demanding for the release of “The Winds of Winter” because it is long overdue already, George RR Martin is pressured to complete it as soon as possible. Now, the 70-year-old awardee of Hugo Award admitted that he is having a hard time writing the chapters of “TWOW,” and told fans that he is as frustrated as them because he also wished that the book has been completed years ago.

“I’ve been struggling with it for a few years,” GRRM confessed to The Guardian. "The Winds is not so much a novel as a dozen novels, each has a different protagonist, each chapter has different supporting players, antagonists, allies and lovers around them - and all of these weaving together against the march of time in an extremely complex fashion. So it is very, very challenging.”

Incidentally, there is a new rumor that George RR Martin is splitting “The Winds of Winter” into two books or chapters. According to Express, GRRM could do this in order to finish the release “TWOW” soon, at least the first part. The author previously said that one reason why it is hard to complete the book is because, there are too many chapters and in fact, the manuscript is already 1,500 pages long.

This is just a rumor at this time but it makes sense if George RR Martin wants to release “The Winds of Winter” soon. This way, he can better organize the stories as well so there is a possibility.
