Twitter may be evicted from its office in San Francisco for its failure to pay rent. The social media firm is also facing a lawsuit related to its non-payment of rental fees, which has now reached a total of $136,260.
In the case that was filed late last week at the San Francisco State Court, it was stated that Columbia Reit-650 California LLC, the landlord of the building, already informed Twitter that it would be defaulting on its rent dues if it would not pay by Dec. 21. But despite this, and after weeks of waiting, Twitter still failed to pay rent for any of its offices including its headquarters in San Francisco.
The social media giant that was recently taken over by Elon Musk occupies the 30th floor of the Hartford Building in the state’s Financial District, and it is staying there under a seven-year lease that was signed in 2017.
Aside from the lawsuit on office rentals, Twitter is being sued by Private Jet Services Group LLC as well. In this case, it was alleged that the company refused to pay for two charter flights that it availed in October and has an outstanding bill of $197,725. This lawsuit was filed last month in New Hampshire District Court.
For the allegations, CBS News reached out to the company for comments, but it did not receive a response. These issues are just one of the things that must be addressed since Musk bought the company for $44 billion in October. The new owner has since been taking drastic measures to cut costs which include massive layoffs.
Furthermore, Twitter is shutting its offices in Seattle as well and reportedly told staff to work from home. This is, apparently, another scheme to reduce costs under Musk.
The company may also be evicted from Century Square Tower in Seattle as it has stopped paying rent. Finally, Seattle Times reported that with the unpaid rental fees in some of its offices in the U.S., Twitter is likely to have just one remaining office, and it is in New York.
