BEAVERTON, Ore., Oct. 23, 2016 -- Unity Chiropractic and Wellness Center has organized center-wide participation of allergy friendly trick-or-treating, and the Teal Pumpkin Project – a campaign designed to spread awareness about food allergies, and promote safe trick-or-treating for children with food allergies. Over 40 businesses in the Progress Ridge Townsquare will be participating in this event on Monday, October 31.
The Teal Pumpkin Project was launched in 2014 by FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education) as a way to educate the public about the dangers that food allergic children have when participating in Halloween festivities. The goal for the Teal Pumpkin Project is to eliminate any risk of exposure to a life-threatening food allergen, and to keep trick-or-treating safe and fun for food allergic kids, or children who are unable to consume candy.
Businesses participating in either the Teal Pumpkin Project or Allergy-Friendly Trick-or-Treating events will have a teal pumpkin on their front window or door. Teal is the color of food allergy awareness. Trick-or-treaters are welcome at these establishments. They may be offered candy, and/or a non-food prize.
While many businesses in Progress Ridge will be participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project (non-food prizes), some businesses will be handing out candy. The businesses giving out food treats will be handing out candies from a list of peanut free candies – many of which are also gluten free, egg free, dairy free, and/or tree nut free. They have been instructed to keep candies separate from non-food treats.
Please be advised that there are some businesses that are NOT participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project or Allergy-Friendly Trick-or-Treating. Please check the front door or window for the pumpkin to know if they’re participating. For a full list of Progress Ridge Townsquare vendors who will be handing out peanut-free and tree nut-free treats, visit http://unitychirobeaverton.com/blog/allergy-free-halloween.html.
“We want to wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween, and hope that you’ll join us at Progress Ridge on Monday, October 31st,” announces Dr. Kathy Cantwell.
