Xiaomi is keeping all the information about the high-end Mi 11 models under wraps before its “Mega Launch” event on March 29, but leaks have already emerged online before the official announcement. The announcement of Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro and Mi 11 Ultra and reports have it they will both sport significant upgrades from the base Mi 11 model.
Xiaomi Mega Launch event: Here’s where to watch on March 29
The Xiaomi Mi 11 was the first smartphone announced as powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC during a late December 2020 event. But that is not everything Xiaomi has planned for its flagship series. The company has been promoting its next product launch event happening on Monday, March 29, where the high-end phones Mi 11 Pro and Mi 11 Ultra are expected to be announced.
While the event is happening in China, fans of the tech brand worldwide can tune in to the “Mega Launch” through various platforms, including Xiaomi’s official YouTube channel. The presentation will start at 7:30 p.m. (GMT+8) / 7:30 a.m. EDT.
Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro and Mi 11 Ultra design, specs
Various posts from the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo may have already revealed pertinent details about the Mi 11 Pro and Mi 11 Ultra specs. Xiaomi’s official page has reportedly confirmed that the Mi 11 Ultra will be its first phone with an IP68 rating for dust and water protection. However, a supposed Mi 11 Pro leak suggests the device is also IP68-certified.
The leaks also suggest that both the Mi 11 Pro and Mi 11 Ultra will sport a display with 2K resolution and up to 120Hz refresh rate. This is particularly interesting because the Mi 11 launched with a higher screen resolution of 3200 x 1440. The phones are also expected to share other similar specs, including the Snapdragon 888 chip, 5000mAh battery, and dual stereo speakers by Harman Kardon.
The same Mi 11 Pro suggests it will support 67W fast charging technology. On the other hand, Mi 11 Ultra reportedly sports a ceramic body.
A promotional poster for the Mi 11 Ultra was also pictured in China, revealing that the device has quite a unique design for its rear-facing sensors. The camera bump will take a larger space than average and corresponds with earlier rumors that the high-end model would have a back screen.
Not much is known about Mi 11 Ultra’s rear-facing screen. But some renders suggest it could be used as a preview of the home screen, display information like the time and date, or it could also be used as a live preview when users want to take selfies with the cameras on the back.
