“Young Sheldon” season 3 has not been confirmed yet but people are already talking about it because of the odds that it will not be renewed by CBS. As suggested by some observers, the series may not continue after the third installment simply because “The Big Bang Theory” is already ending this year.
It should be noted that Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro created “Young Sheldon” as a spin-off to “The Big Bang Theory.” Its title already hinted that the prequel tells the backstory of Sheldon Cooper when he was still a 9-year-old kid who lives in East Texas. In short, the sitcom shows Cooper’s childhood days up to his pre-teen years in high school.
Now, will “Young Sheldon” season 3 really be axed because “The Big Bang Theory is ending? Well, there is a big chance that it will remain on air even without the main show where it was based on. This is because the series already gained enough followers to stand on its own.
In fact, The Wrap reported that based on the current Nielsen viewership rating stat, “Young Sheldon” has an average 2.7 percent rating in the 18-49 age demographic. This translates to at least 14.5 million viewers. With this number, surely CBS will think twice about not renewing “Young Sheldon” season 3.
Moreover, while “Young Sheldon” does not have the high numbers as “The Big Bang Theory,” it is doing well compared to other comedy sitcoms in its home broadcasting network. It has its regular audience that provides support to keep it going and continue with the third installment.
Meanwhile, the show is still in its second season and next week, “Young Sheldon” season 2 episode 13 titled “A Nuclear Reactor and a Boy Called Lovey” is airing at 8:30 p.m. on CBS. Catch the show on Jan. 17 for an entertaining TV night.
