태국 국왕이 올해 초 의회를 통과한 동성 결혼 평등 법안을 승인하면서 태국은 동남아시아에서 최초로, 아시아에서는 세 번째로 동성 부부의 결혼을 공식적으로 인정하는 국가가 되었다.
왕실 승인은 화요일 늦게 공식 왕실 관보에 게재되었으며, 법안은 120일 후인 2025년 1월 22일에 발효될 예정이다.
이번 법은 활동가들이 20년간 노력한 결과물로, 지난 6월 상원을 통과하였다.
아시아에서 가장 인기 있는 관광지 중 하나인 태국은 이미 성소수자(LGBT) 문화와 관용으로 잘 알려져 있다.
