The short-side total was about 3.2 times the $77.79 million reported for longs, with a similar pattern in Bitcoin and Ether. The figures track position closures by side; they do not provide a separate dollar total for traders’ losses.
Short positions accounted for $70.48 million of Bitcoin (BTC) liquidations, while long positions accounted for $9.06 million. For Ether (ETH), the short-side value was $82.93 million and the long-side value was $27.10 million. Short positions benefit from falling prices; long positions benefit from rising prices.
A four-hour snapshot from Oct. 20 also showed more short than long liquidations: $140 million versus $15.11 million, respectively, in EconoTimes’ earlier coverage of the reading. That window fell within a separate $267 million 24-hour tally covering 64,522 traders. The largest reported liquidation in the shorter window was $11.96 million on Binance’s BTCUSDT market, a Bitcoin trading pair.
