Bronx resident Mildred Baker, 80, is due to make her marathon debut at the TCS New York City Marathon Sunday, Nov. 1, after appearing on CBS News’ CBS Saturday Morning, which also covered U.S. midterms. The network’s Oct. 31 episode included Baker’s profile and election coverage.

New York Road Runners (NYRR), which organizes the race, said Baker ran her first half-marathon at the 2025 United Airlines NYC Half. She joined NYRR Striders, a program for older adults, in her late seventies, the organization said.

In an NYRR profile, Baker said, “it is never too late to set a new goal, challenge yourself, and dream bigger.”

NYRR said the five-borough course was first run in 1976, making the 2026 race its 50th anniversary. The Federal Election Commission (FEC) lists Tuesday, Nov. 3, as the date of the next regularly scheduled federal general election.
