ADNOC Gas agreed to supply TotalEnergies with a maximum of 1.6 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) across five years, as forecasts point to a much larger global market by 2050.

The National reported that ADNOC Gas Chief Executive Fatema Mohamed Al Nuaimi said at an ADIPEC panel Tuesday that long-term gas demand would continue to grow. The newspaper also attributed to her a link between AI infrastructure and new demand.

ADNOC Gas said global LNG demand continues to increase. TotalEnergies said the additional supply would help it compete as a supplier with a portfolio of LNG sources. The companies did not disclose the contract price or annual delivery allocations.

Shell’s June 2026 outlook puts its central 2050 scenario at 695 million tonnes of LNG demand annually, within a modeled range of 610 million to 780 million tonnes. Shell said the central estimate is about 65% above 2025 levels. It reported that 422 million tonnes of LNG were traded in 2025.

The outlook flags data-center electricity use in Japan as a newer demand factor. Shell expects South and Southeast Asia together to account for roughly two-fifths of global LNG imports by 2050.

Shell estimated that shipping disruption through the Strait of Hormuz took around one-fifth of monthly global LNG supply offline since the conflict began. It linked the disruption to higher spot prices and negative effects in some Asian countries. Asian LNG prices topped $20 per million British thermal units during the crisis; Shell put the May average at about $11 to $12, compared with $7 to $11 in January before the conflict. The company compared the episode with the 2022 supply disruption after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

ADNOC said its LNG marketing and trading platform, involving XRG and ADNOC Trading, is pursuing a target of 47 million tonnes of marketable LNG per year beyond 2030. TotalEnergies expects the first deliveries under its agreement with ADNOC Gas in 2026.
