APGA's backing of Tinubu for president is unfolding alongside an unverified report that some Anambra candidates may omit his and Gov. Chukwuma Soludo's images from campaign posters ahead of Nigeria's 2027 elections.
BusinessDay reported Oct. 24, citing unnamed candidates, that they expected the images to prompt voter questions about economic hardship and Soludo's criticism of former Anambra Gov. Peter Obi. The candidates told the outlet they planned to foreground their own records and platforms. BusinessDay's account has not been independently confirmed; it did not identify the candidates, provide poster examples or give a count.
Dr. Law Mefor, Anambra's information commissioner, told BusinessDay the party was unaware of the alleged practice and would study it if true.
Voice of Nigeria reported that Mefor and APGA National Publicity Secretary Mazi Ejimofor Opara described the party's presidential backing of Tinubu alongside plans to field candidates for Senate, House of Representatives and state assembly seats. Mefor has argued that alignment with the federal government could help the South-East attract infrastructure projects and expand economic opportunities. Voice of Nigeria traced the approach through earlier administrations, citing Peter Obi's work with Goodluck Jonathan and Willie Obiano's ties with Muhammadu Buhari.
The State House said Soludo attended the Oct. 14 inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council and committed to helping Tinubu win re-election in 2027. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lists Jan. 16, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections, followed by state assembly elections on Feb. 6, 2027.
A joint APGA-APC stakeholders' meeting in Awka is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 1. Voice of Nigeria reported, citing an Oct. 22 circular from Soludo's office signed by Ben Nwankwo, that accreditation is set for 4 a.m. ET (09:00 UTC), with the meeting due to begin at 7 a.m. ET (12:00 UTC).
