Gulf News reported that Abu Dhabi has introduced two dedicated number-plate designs for autonomous vehicles, helping road users distinguish commercial transport from vehicles still taking part in trials.

The outlet described the designs as Abu Dhabi's first number plates created specifically for self-driving vehicles. It reported that AD Mobility Abu Dhabi introduced them.

Under the system, commercial services will use plates reading “Auto Drive,” while vehicles in trials or pilot programs will carry “Test,” Gulf News reported.

Gulf News said the markings are intended to help people recognize autonomous vehicles on Abu Dhabi's roads. The outlet said they clarify whether a vehicle is already operating as a commercial service or remains under evaluation.

The report linked the plates to Abu Dhabi's wider effort to incorporate self-driving technology into its transport system. It also tied the initiative to goals for smart and sustainable mobility.
