Abu Dhabi's Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) announced a Dh872 million road project linking Ramhan and Jubail islands to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway (E12) to improve access.

The project covers 166,000 square meters. Its design includes seven bridges, three tunnels, ramps, roads and utility corridors. DMT said the route is intended to make the islands easier to reach and increase road capacity, with smoother traffic movement also among its aims.

Eisa Mubarak Almazrouei, DMT's director general of infrastructure development, said the connection is intended to support future development and economic activity by improving access to both islands.

DMT said the plans include energy-efficient LED lighting and recycling about 90% of project waste, a volume of more than 2,200 tonnes. The department said advanced works were underway when it announced the project on Oct. 27; the announcement did not define the term. Completion is expected in 2027.
