Adobe has named Anil Chakravarthy as its next president and chief executive officer, marking a major leadership transition as the software giant seeks to accelerate growth across artificial intelligence and agentic software.

Chakravarthy, currently president of Adobe’s Customer Experience Orchestration business and worldwide field operations, will become CEO and join the company’s board on Dec. 1. Longtime chief executive Shantanu Narayen will move into the role of executive chair and work alongside Chakravarthy during the transition.

The leadership change comes as Adobe expands its AI strategy across creative, productivity and customer-experience products. Chakravarthy said his priorities will include driving growth in the emerging era of “agentic software” while deepening AI integration throughout Adobe’s portfolio.

Chakravarthy joined Adobe in January 2020 as executive vice president and general manager of its Digital Experience business. In December 2021, he was promoted to president of Digital Experience and worldwide field operations.

During his time at Adobe, Chakravarthy helped expand the company’s Customer Experience Orchestration operations and contributed to products including Adobe CX Enterprise, GenStudio and Brand Visibility. He also helped scale Adobe Experience Platform and integrate acquisitions such as Workfront and Semrush.

Before joining Adobe, Chakravarthy spent four years as CEO of enterprise cloud data management company Informatica. His previous experience includes senior positions at Symantec and VeriSign, as well as a role at McKinsey & Company.

Narayen said Chakravarthy is well positioned to lead Adobe through its next phase of AI-driven growth. Adobe’s board unanimously approved his appointment following a six-and-a-half-month selection process conducted by a special committee.

The leadership announcement comes shortly before Adobe reports its fiscal third-quarter 2026 results on Sept. 10. Investors are expected to closely watch AI product adoption, the company’s growth outlook and how its artificial intelligence strategy develops ahead of Chakravarthy’s December takeover.
