Aflac Incorporated announced leadership changes set to take effect Jan. 1, 2027, naming new presidents for its Japan and U.S. insurance businesses as part of a long-term succession plan.
Shinsuke Morimoto, currently Aflac Japan’s deputy president, will become president and representative director of Aflac Life Insurance Japan Ltd. He will oversee execution across Aflac Japan and join the Aflac Holdings LLC Board of Managers.
Masatoshi Koide, the current president and representative director of Aflac Japan, will become its chairman and representative director. Aflac said he will guide the board on major decisions and supervise operations. Koide will retain his seat on the Aflac Holdings board.
Frederic J. Simard will become president of Aflac U.S. His responsibilities will span strategy, distribution and operations. Aflac’s management pages list Simard as the unit’s deputy president and Virgil R. Miller as its current president.
Charles D. Lake II will become an Executive Advisor to Aflac Japan and chairman of Aflac International, serving as Aflac’s representative on international matters. Lake is listed as Aflac Japan’s current chairman and will remain on the Aflac Holdings board alongside Koide.
Aflac’s 2025 annual filing identified Koide as Japan’s president and representative director and Lake as its chairman. The company’s Japan officer page lists Morimoto as deputy president, while its management page lists Simard as deputy president in the U.S.
Aflac President Virgil R. Miller cited Morimoto’s “deep understanding of our business, culture and strategy.” Chairman and CEO Daniel P. Amos said the succession process aimed to put “the right people in the right places at the right time.”
Aflac’s third-quarter 2026 results are scheduled for release after the U.S. market closes Nov. 4 (ET). The leadership changes take effect Jan. 1, 2027.
