After Tuesday’s U.S. midterms, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said Americans had rejected the war with Iran; The Associated Press reported Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress.

Anadolu Ajansı reported that Qalibaf wrote on X Wednesday, “Americans said NO TO WAR, and we endorse this message.” He offered conscience and the cost of living as possible explanations for that message and warned Washington would face a “nightmare” if it ignored the public will.

Anadolu Ajansı described the election as a setback for President Donald Trump and Republicans. It also reported that the United States and Israel launched the war against Iran in February.

Deputy Parliament Speaker Ali Nikzad said the vote showed U.S. sanctions and pressure had failed to undermine Iran, Anadolu Ajansı reported. He warned military action in the Strait of Hormuz would draw a “crushing response.”

Seyed Mehdi Tabatabaei, deputy head for communications and information in the Iranian president’s office, cited the war with Iran, U.S. support for Israeli actions in Gaza and Washington’s alignment with Israeli interests as factors behind Republican losses, Anadolu Ajansı reported.

Qalibaf had earlier warned that a new U.S. military operation would prompt an unpredictable response from Iran, as EconoTimes reported previously.
