NPR’s All Things Considered interviewed California Rep. Pete Aguilar about Democrats’ response to election returns and priorities if they regain the House.

Aguilar serves California’s 33rd District. The results will show which party controls the House and Senate.

The House Clerk’s Oct. 19 roster listed 218 Republicans, 214 Democrats, one independent and two vacancies. With 218 seats needed for a majority, Democrats were four seats short based on that count. EconoTimes previously covered prediction-market expectations for a Democratic sweep.

The new Congress is scheduled to begin Jan. 3, 2027, when the election result will determine House control and committee leadership.
