Akash Network stakers approved a proposal to move the network’s native token (AKT) from Cosmos to Solana, advancing the plan while leaving the compute marketplace’s cutover for a separate vote.

The planned Solana issuance remains conditional on two audits, covering the token and the migration portal. The proposal would issue AKT as an SPL token. It also places the marketplace cutover vote after the audits and a migration rehearsal.

Under the proposal, holders could exchange AKT through a one-way portal during a two-year window, with each token converted at a one-to-one ratio. Holders with staked AKT would first need to complete a 21-day unbonding period.

Akash has cited operating costs under heavy workloads and Solana’s existing decentralized physical infrastructure projects as reasons for choosing the network. Staking rewards on Cosmos are scheduled to end when the marketplace switches. No cutover date has been announced.
