Al Jazeera reported Oct. 21 that people in Senegal, Costa Rica and Indonesia want action on rising living costs, highlighting pressure over household finances beyond Europe.

Separately, protests in five European countries have brought concerns about household costs, housing and public services into political debate.

The French Ministry of the Interior counted 550,000 demonstrators at protests on Oct. 17. French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said officers lost control in parts of some cities despite the deployment of 60,000 police and gendarmes. The government moved to assist businesses damaged during the unrest and review its security response.
