Rekeying lets Algorand account holders select Falcon-1024 for transaction approval while preserving their existing addresses and assets on the network without sending funds to replacement accounts. Users can make the change without transferring assets to a new account.
Native Falcon-1024 accounts first became available on Algorand mainnet in August 2026. More than 2,000 native accounts have used the method to sign on mainnet. Pera Wallet, AlgoKit and Algorand's software development kits provide setup routes, while Falcon-1024 remains the account feature's only post-quantum signing method.
Algorand reported on Oct. 17 that post-quantum signatures had been used for more than 2.7 million transactions, as outlined in its transaction milestone. That count measures transactions, while the more than 2,000 total refers to accounts. The two figures track different types of activity and cannot be treated as equivalent.
These account and transaction counts cover only a portion of Algorand's cryptography. On Algorand, elliptic-curve cryptography still underpins the verifiable random function; consensus signatures remain based on Ed25519. Neither tally identifies the method used for each network function.
Algorand's State Proofs also use Falcon, a system the network has operated since 2022 to verify ledger status on a 256-round cycle. That ledger-verification process has a separate function from signatures used to approve individual account transactions. Algorand's target for wider quantum resilience is the end of 2027.
