Falcon Account Signatures Mark 2.7 Million Transactions on Algorand

Algorand's account-signing option uses Falcon-1024, introduced on mainnet in August 2026; consensus still uses Ed25519.

Algorand said on Saturday, Oct. 17, that its mainnet tally topped 2.7 million transactions signed with post-quantum technology; the count reflects account authorization and does not establish protection across all network functions.

Algorand introduced native accounts using Falcon-1024 on its mainnet in August 2026. Users can access the feature via AlgoKit, Pera Wallet and Algorand's software development kits. The account option currently supports no other post-quantum scheme.

Algorand also applies Falcon signatures to State Proofs. Dating to 2022, State Proofs certify ledger status at 256-round intervals; account signatures separately approve individual transactions.

Account signing and consensus use different cryptographic systems. Algorand uses elliptic-curve cryptography in its verifiable random function, while Ed25519 handles consensus signatures.

Algorand's security plan sets an end-2027 goal for wider quantum resilience, pairing post-quantum multisignature support with further study of consensus protections.
