Amazon.com Inc. has scheduled its third-quarter results call for Oct. 29 while Binance’s AMZNUSDT perpetual contract trades 24/7, leaving the derivative available around the company’s next financial update.
Amazon said it will webcast the call at 5 p.m. ET (21:00 UTC). Nasdaq’s after-hours session runs until 8 p.m. ET, so Amazon shares can still trade when the call begins. The scheduling difference is sharper on weekends, when the Binance contract remains open while Nasdaq shares do not trade.
AMZNUSDT follows the price of Amazon common stock but is a separate financial instrument. Binance lists settlement in Tether (USDT), leverage of up to 10x and funding-fee settlements every eight hours. Holding the contract does not transfer ownership of Amazon shares. Binance introduced the perpetual on Feb. 9.
The exchange uses different index pricing methods during regular stock trading, premarket, after-hours and overnight sessions. Those methods account for the difference between the contract’s continuous trading schedule and the shorter schedule for shares, as EconoTimes’ earlier explanation of Binance’s pricing methods detailed. Binance’s mark price applies to the futures contract, not to an Amazon share.
Continuous access lets traders hold or adjust a contract position when the underlying shares are closed. Binance also warns that leverage can magnify losses and that a gap between contract and share prices when stock trading resumes can affect open positions. Funding fees are another term traders face over the life of a position.
In the second quarter, AWS generated $42.2 billion in sales, a 37% annual increase, and $16.6 billion in operating income. Amazon’s next scheduled discussion of company results is the Oct. 29 webcast.
